Lucknow: Dr Shakuntala Misra National Rehabilitation University (DSMNRU) has received 4,058 applications for 2,902 seats across undergraduate, diploma and postgraduate programmes, with Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO) and LLM emerging as the most competitive courses.At the undergraduate level, the university has received 2,035 applications. The toughest competition is for the Bachelor of Prosthetics and Orthotics (BPO) programme, which has attracted 90 applications for just 13 seats, translating to nearly seven aspirants for every seat.“BPO is a unique programme that combines healthcare, biomechanics and engineering. It trains professionals to design, fabricate and fit artificial limbs (prosthetics) and supportive braces (orthotics), helping persons with disabilities regain mobility. The course offers excellent career prospects for both general and disabled students,” said DSMNRU spokesperson Yashwant Virodai.He said graduates of the programme have employment opportunities in government and private hospitals, orthopaedic, neurological and rehabilitation centres, prosthetics and orthotics manufacturing companies, research organisations and other healthcare institutions.Among undergraduate courses, the BA programme has attracted the highest number of applications, with 419 candidates competing for 220 seats. It is followed by BCom, which has received 171 applications for 66 seats. The BSc (Computer Science and IT) programme has attracted 157 applications for 33 seats, while the BCom LLB (Hons) programme has received 143 applications for 66 seats.Among postgraduate programmes, the LLM course has emerged as the most sought-after, receiving 125 applications for 22 seats, or nearly six applicants per seat. According to university officials, the course remains popular because of its specialised streams, including corporate and technology law, opportunities for international legal practice, and its importance for those aspiring to pursue careers in legal academia.The MA (Sociology) programme has received 148 applications for 44 seats. Other postgraduate courses, including MSW, MA Hindi, MA History and MCA, have also attracted applications well above the available seats. The MBA programme has received 194 applications for 132 seats.
