The Election Commission has asked K Kavitha’s Telangana Rakshana Sena to consider alternative names after receiving objections to the party’s proposed acronym, TRS, according to party sources.Although the poll body received hundreds of objections during the registration process, it has so far forwarded only two to the K Kavitha-led party for its response.According to the sources, one objection was submitted by Telangana Rajya Samithi, while the other came from a Maharashtra-based organisation that also uses the acronym TRS.The Telangana Rajya Samithi is based in Siddipet, the district headquarters in Telangana. The Telangana Rakshana Sena has responded to both objections and urged the Election Commission to provide copies of all the representations received against the proposed name. The party has maintained that it is prepared to address “every single objection,” the sources said. The party is also exploring legal options to defend its proposed name.K Kavitha, daughter of Bharat Rashtra Samithi president K Chandrasekhar Rao, launched the Telangana Rakshana Sena on April 25, 2026. In accordance with Election Commission norms, the party subsequently published newspaper advertisements inviting objections, if any, to its proposed name and acronym.TRS was the original acronym of K Chandrasekhar Rao’s Telangana Rashtra Samithi before it was renamed the Bharat Rashtra Samithi (BRS).Rao, popularly known as KCR, changed the party’s name to BRS in December 2022 as part of an effort to expand its political presence beyond Telangana. However, those plans suffered a setback after the party lost power in the state in December 2023.The acronym TRS continues to enjoy strong public recall across Telangana, having been associated with the movement launched by KCR in 2001 that ultimately led to the creation of the separate state.
