Lucknow: A CBI court in Lucknow has sentenced Krishna Mohan Tripathi, the then chief regional manager (CRM) of the Indian Railway Catering and Tourism Corporation (IRCTC), Lucknow regional office, to three years’ imprisonment in a disproportionate assets case.The court pronounced the judgement on Aug 10 and also imposed a fine of Rs 14.75 lakh on Tripathi. According to the CBI, the disproportionate assets case was registered on Feb 24, 2010, as a follow-up to a trap case in which Tripathi was caught red-handed on Oct 31, 2009, while allegedly demanding and accepting an illegal gratification of Rs 70,000.During the investigation into the trap case, the CBI found that Tripathi was allegedly in possession of assets disproportionate to his known sources of income. Based on these findings, the agency registered the DA case against him. The CBI subsequently completed its investigation and filed a charge sheet against Tripathi on Dec 13, 2011.During the trial, the prosecution established that Tripathi was in possession of disproportionate assets amounting to Rs 1,44,02,221, which constituted 102.53 per cent of his total income, according to the CBI.After examining the evidence and completing the trial, the court convicted Tripathi and awarded him three years’ imprisonment along with the fine of Rs 14.75 lakh.
