Lucknow: Police registered FIR against two former officials of a private banking and securities group for allegedly siphoning off Rs 37 crore from a city-based businessman’s demat account through forged documents and manipulation of electronic records.The case was lodged at Ghazipur police station on court directions following a complaint by businessman Amit Agrawal, who alleged that the accused conspired to withdraw funds from his demat account without his knowledge or consent.According to the complaint, Agrawal transferred Rs 13 crore in 2023 for trading and investment purposes and later accumulated Rs 37 crore in his demat account. He alleged that the entire amount was subsequently withdrawn through unauthorised transactions.Agrawal’s counsel, Shivang Dwivedi, claimed that forged documents were prepared in the businessman’s name and electronic records were tampered with to facilitate the transfers. The alleged irregularities came to light during an audit conducted in Jan 2026, following which Agrawal approached police.Claiming that no action was taken on his complaint, he moved court, which ordered registration of FIR.Police are investigating the case against the two accused, both former officials associated with the financial institutions handling the account.Inspector Rajesh Maurya said investigators are collecting transaction records and supporting documents from the complainant and will seek relevant information from the institutions concerned. The allegations of forgery, unauthorised withdrawals and manipulation of digital records will be verified during the probe.No arrest was made till the filing of the report.
