Lucknow: Hazratganj police in Lucknow registered an FIR against Samajwadi Party (SP) functionary Laljeet Yadav and four to five unidentified associates on charges of allegedly abusing chief minister Yogi Adityanath, threatening Vishwa Hindu Parishad (VHP) and Bajrang Dal workers, and attempting to assault them outside Darul Shafa.The case has been registered under Sections 351(3) (criminal intimidation) and 352 (intentional insult provoking breach of peace) of Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS), 2023, based on a complaint filed by Abhijeet Rai, a VHP-Bajrang Dal worker and a resident of Ghazipur district.According to the FIR, the incident occurred around 3.04 pm on Aug 1 near Gate No. 1 of Darul Shafa in Hazratganj area, approximately 1.5 kilometres east of the police station.In his complaint, Rai alleged that he and fellow VHP and Bajrang Dal workers were addressing the media outside Darul Shafa when Laljeet Yadav allegedly began abusing CM Yogi without provocation. The complainant further alleged that Yadav threatened the group, saying that once the Samajwadi Party returned to power in 2027, VHP and Bajrang Dal workers would be “beaten on the roads and sent to jail.”The FIR further alleges that Laljeet Yadav, accompanied by four to five unidentified associates, attempted to assault the complainant and his companions. However, people present at the spot intervened and prevented any physical confrontation.The complainant also alleged that Laljeet Yadav frequently uses abusive and unparliamentary language against the chief minister. He claimed that video footage of the alleged remarks was available and requested police to initiate legal action.
