Lucknow: A fire broke out at a stationery and toy shop on the ground floor of a two-storey building on Tudia Ganj-Girdharilal Inter College Road in old Lucknow on Tuesday morning. No casualties were reported. According to the fire department, information about the blaze was received through UP-112 at around 11.21 am. Three fire tenders from the Chowk fire station were rushed to the spot, along with police teams from Bazaar Khala police station and a unit deployed for Chehlum duty from Saadatganj. In all, five fire tenders were pressed into service. Sources said thick smoke engulfed the area after a large quantity of goods stored in two lofts inside the shop caught fire. Firefighters battled the blaze for nearly one-and-a-half hours before bringing it under control. “The shop belongs to Yusuf of Muftiganj in Thakurganj. The exact cause of the fire is yet to be ascertained. Further investigation is underway,” said chief fire officer Ankush Mittal.
