Lucknow: Indian Police Service (IPS) officer Meenu Chaudhary on Wednesday created history by becoming the first woman to head the Sashastra Seema Bal’s (SSB) Lucknow frontier headquarters as she assumed charge as the inspector general (IG).An officer of the Arunachal Pradesh-Goa-Mizoram and Union Territories (AGMUT) cadre of the 2000 batch, Chaudhary was accorded a ceremonial guard of honour on her arrival at the frontier headquarters. She inspected the contingent and later visited various branches of the headquarters to review its functioning, operational preparedness and administrative arrangements.Before taking over the new assignment, Chaudhary was serving as additional director general of police (intelligence), Mizoram. During her nearly 25-year policing career, she has held several key assignments in the Delhi Police and the Centre, overseeing law and order, crime control, traffic management, personnel administration, security and intelligence.She is the recipient of the police medal for meritorious service (2017) and has also been honoured with the outstanding service medal and the Delhi police commissioner’s commendation disc for operational duty in 2023 and administrative excellence in 2024.Her predecessor, 1998 cadre Bihar officer Ratn Sanjay, was promoted to the rank of additional DG and was sent to Delhi in SSB.
