Lucknow: Former mayor Suresh Chandra Awasthi was injured after being attacked by a pack of stray dogs in Aliganj on Friday night.The dogs allegedly bit him multiple times on his legs and back. According to him, the incident took place near Sector Q Chauraha, where Awasthi resides. He was taking a walk in the colony after dinner when around 10-12 stray dogs attacked him. Before he could react, the dogs allegedly bit him.Hearing his cries for help, nearby residents rushed to the spot and rescued him from the dogs.Awasthi said stray dogs have become a major problem in the locality and such attacks occur frequently. He also alleged that a woman in the area has been feeding and sheltering 10 to 12 stray dogs without obtaining a licence.A complaint regarding the incident has been lodged with the Lucknow Municipal Corporation. When asked, animal welfare officer Dr Abhinav Verma said, “We have sent a team to the area to catch the dogs for sterilization and assessment of their behavior.”
