Lucknow: Police in Maharajganj have registered an FIR against Geeta Nishad, a former district president of the Nishad party, for allegedly issuing threats on social media to burn down Mehdawal police station and using abusive language against the police.According to officials, Geeta, a resident of Baratgadha village under Farenda police station limits, uploaded a video on social media in which she purportedly made inflammatory remarks and openly threatened to set the Mehdawal police station on fire. Taking serious note of the video, police initiated legal action.Station house officer Surendra Kumar Singh said that on Apr 21, during routine monitoring, the police came across a public post and comments from Geeta’s social media account. The content allegedly contained baseless accusations against the Mehdawal police and attempts to incite members of the public and a particular community to gather and take aggressive action against law enforcement.Police said the language used in the post had the potential to disturb public order, erode public trust in the police, and incite unrest. Officials also said that the threat to burn down the police station was explicitly mentioned in the post.Based on a report submitted to the Mehdawal police station, an FIR has been registered under relevant sections. The police IT cell has taken cognizance of the matter and initiated further investigation.Circle officer Sarvadaman Singh said, “The police administration is fully committed to taking action against those who take the law into their own hands”.
