LUCKNOW: With the 594-km-long Ganga Expressway set to open for public on April 29, the travelers will be able to cover the distance between Meerut-Prayagraj and vice versa in 6-7 hours, driving down at the maximum speed of 120 kmph. “Designed for speeds of up to 120 kmph, the expressway will cut down travel time between the two cities to approximately 6-7 hours from the current 10-12 hours,” said an official. Prime Minister Narendra Modi is scheduled to inaugurate the expressway on April 29. Officials from the Uttar Pradesh Expressways Industrial Development Authority (UPEIDA) said the six-lane expressway has been constructed with provisions for expansion to eight lanes in the future. With a right-of-way of 120 metres, the project has been developed in four packages to ensure timely completion while maintaining high engineering standards. The expressway features two main toll plazas at entry points in Meerut and Prayagraj, along with 19 ramp toll plazas for convenient access and exit. Additionally, nine public utility complexes have been developed, offering fuel stations, food courts, rest areas, and sanitation facilities to improve long-distance travel comfort. The project includes key river crossings, with a nearly 960-metre-long bridge over the Ganga and a 720-metre bridge over the Ramganga. These structures have been designed with advanced engineering techniques, keeping flood patterns and water flow dynamics in mind.
