Utpal Borah of the BJP emerged victorious in the election, securing a total of 96582 votes. He defeated Congress candidate Sankar Jyoti Kutum by a decisive margin of 52722 votes.In the Gohpur constituency, BJP candidate Utpal Borah won against Congress’s Sankar Jyoti Kutum in a closely watched contest.Statewide, exit polls indicate a strong performance by the BJP-led government, suggesting that Himanta Biswa Sarma is likely to continue as chief minister. Assam recorded voting across all 126 seats on April 9, with turnout exceeding 85%, one of the highest in recent times.The enthusiasm among voters was visible across rural as well as urban areas, pointing to broad-based electoral participation.Gohpur is one of the 126 Assembly constituencies in Assam. It is a general category seat located in Sonitpur district and is among the nine Assembly segments under the Tezpur Lok Sabha constituency.In the 2021 Assam Assembly elections, the constituency had 2,04,613 registered voters, with 1,63,163 valid votes cast. Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidate Utpal Borah won the seat with 93,224 votes.Congress candidate Ripun Bora finished second with 63,930 votes, losing by a margin of 29,294 votes.In the 2016 Assembly elections, Gohpur had 1,71,284 electors, with 1,46,618 valid votes recorded.BJP’s Utpal Borah won with 85,424 votes, defeating Congress candidate Monika Bora, who secured 56,489 votes.
