Lucknow: Gonda police on Friday claimed to have solved the murder of a 17-year-old girl, the sister of an Azad Samaj Party functionary, within 36 hours after the main accused was arrested following an encounter in which he suffered a bullet injury on his right leg.The incident took place under the limits of Nagar Kotwali police station. The accused, Sanjay Gautam, confessed during questioning that he killed the victim after she resisted molestation attempt on Thursday.The victim was the sister of a functionary of the Azad Samaj Party.Following the murder, SP Vineet Jaiswal constituted four police teams to investigate the case.Acting on surveillance inputs, police traced the accused near a school around 9.30 pm on Friday. When a joint team of the Special Operations Group (SOG) and Nagar Kotwali police attempted to intercept him, the accused allegedly opened fire on the police.Police retaliated in self-defence, injuring the accused in his leg.
