Lucknow: Governor Anandiben Patel, chancellor of state universities, on Monday urged wider use of advanced medical technologies, stronger research on women’s health and greater awareness on organ donation from brain-dead patients.Speaking at the convocation of King George’s Medical University (KGMU), Patel said India is moving towards self-reliance in healthcare, pointing to progress in breast cancer nano-drugs, gene therapy and CAR-T cell therapy.She appealed to newly qualified doctors to serve in rural areas for at least two to three years and asked private hospitals to offer free or subsidised treatment to poor patients. Patel said more than 90 crore people have been issued Unique Medical Record IDs, allowing patients to access treatment across the country.She cited the Digital Ayushman Mission, Ayushman Mandirs, the TB elimination campaign and expanded immunisation programmes as key initiatives. On campus safety, Patel announced that 2,500 additional CCTV cameras will be installed at KGMU, which is currently monitored by around 600 cameras.
