While Govinda is often called an actor whose talent is unparalleled, fans are often upset about his fading stardom. In many interviews recently, Govinda’s wife Sunita Ahuja is also seen expressing that she would want him to do more movies because there’s never been a star like him. In recent times, the actor has also found himself in a controversy as he was alleged to be having an extra-marital affair and there were speculations about his divorce with Sunita. In a recent interview Govinda reacted to this and said that every actor has faced downfall in his career. He reflected on how even the biggest icons have faced similar phases. Drawing parallels with legends like Amitabh Bachchan and Rajesh Khanna, he said during a chat with Siddharth Kannan, “Look, in this film industry, everyone at some point is forced out and given a bad reputation. You see legendary Amitabh Bachchan, he was the perfect actor in the industry, right? But he was absent for 14–15 years. Why? Did he not show up on time for shoots? Look at Rajesh Khanna. In the middle of his career, there was an entire group of people saying, ‘No, it’s not good, this is wrong, that is wrong, he looks strange.’ Again, why? It’s a phase you have to go through. How you come out of it, that’s the game.”He also pointed to Aamir Khan as another example of how reputations can shift with time. “Aamir Khan ki badnaami kitni hoti thi beech mein, baad mein jab hit dene laga toh sab ke liye perfectionist hogaya (Aamir Khan had a bad reputation for so long. Later, when he started giving hits, everyone called him a perfectionist).”When the conversation turned to persistent rumours about his punctuality and attitude affecting his standing in the industry, Govinda responded sharply. “Whose name is spotless in this film industry? Are you crazy? Whose name is perfect here? The ones with an exceptionally good name, understand, they are the most dangerous people. Those whom the public loves, understand, people fear them. Excuse me, whose name is truly good?” He concluded with a resigned note: “It’s certain that your name will get tarnished.”
