Lucknow: The Folk Art Museum at Lucknow Zoo is set to undergo a massive infrastructure boost as the UP culture department has sanctioned an additional Rs 15 crore to expand the museum with new attractions, and exhibition spaces to position it as a key heritage destination.This expansion plan is followed with an earlier renovation of the museum in which the govt spent around Rs 3 crore to improve the infrastructure of the building. Under the new mega development drive, the aim is to attract young visitors with interactive displays giving them a glimpse of exceptional talent of UP’s folk artists.Under the expansion drive, the museum will showcase gold embroidery (zardozi) artwork of artists from Varanasi, Mirzapur, Agra, Lucknow along with Gorakhpur’s terracotta sculptures.A dedicated workshop area, and a stage for folk performances will also be developed to promote live demonstrations and cultural events.An activity zone for children is also being planned to introduce them to folk art and craft through interactive sessions and live demonstrations.The plan also includes 25 hanging carpets, an interactive textile thread display, and traditional tribal cottages reflecting indigenous lifestyles.The museum will also feature models of prehistoric cave walls, giving visitors a view of early human life and rural traditions.Culture and tourism minister, Jaiveer Singh said, “The initiative would help preserve folk art and craft traditions and ensure wider awareness about the state’s rich folk heritage”.‘Additional chief secretary , culture and tourism, Amrit Abhijaat, said, “The upgraded facilities are intended to offer visitors a more comfortable and visually engaging experience while preserving the authenticity of traditional displays.”Established in 1989, the museum is dedicated to the collection, preservation and exhibition of UP’s folk arts.
