NEW DELHI: Rabi Lamichhane, chief of Nepal’s ruling Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), met Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) president Nitin Nabin on Tuesday. Although pre-scheduled, Lamichhane’s visit comes amid ongoing controversy over recent remarks by Nepal Prime Minister and RSP leader Balendra Shah on the border dispute between India and Nepal.Also Read | Nepal PM Balendra Shah’s ‘encroaching’ India remark sparks row: What is the border dispute about?Upon arrival at the BJP headquarters in the capital, the RSP delegation, comprising its senior leaders, was accorded a grand welcome.“Glad to welcome Shri Rabi Lamichhane Ji, Chairman of Nepal’s Rastriya Swatantra Party (RSP), and his delegation at the BJP headquarters under the ‘Know BJP’ initiative. Had a meaningful interaction on strengthening BJP-RSP engagement. Shared insights on the BJP’s organisational structure from the top level to the booth level, our membership process, and our deep connect with grassroots karyakartas,” Nabin posted on X, sharing a video and pictures from the meeting.“Also highlighted how, under the leadership of Hon’ble PM Shri @narendramodi Ji, development and public welfare remain central to our governance model,” he added.According to Vijay Chauthaiwale, head of the BJP’s foreign affairs department, Nabin stressed that such interactions help strengthen “democratic dialogue and deepen party-to-party engagement” between the two parties.Chauthaiwale added that Nabin shared insights into the BJP’s journey, ideology, organisational structure, and people-centric approach to political engagement.The RSP delegation is visiting India at Nabin’s invitation.
