Kalyani: A Trinamool Congress councillor was arrested in West Bengal’s Nadia district Friday. Rajib Dalal, who represents Ward 17 and is the first-ever chairman of Haringhata Municipality, was picked up from his residence. The arrest was allegedly linked to a supposed altercation on the day of nomination filing by TMC candidate Rajib Biswas. Dalal was accused of getting into an argument with the returning officer. Dalal was produced before the Kalyani sub-divisional court Friday, which remanded him in judicial custody till Monday. The arrest triggered sharp reactions from Dalal’s family and party colleagues. While his wife, Sujata, called the arrest politically motivated, TMC neta Chanchal Debnath and municipal chairman Debasish Bose said the arrest without notice was unjustified.
