Lucknow: A 24-year-old newlywed woman was found dead at her rented flat in Indiranagar. While the husband claimed she died by suicide following a dispute over cancelling flight tickets to Kashmir and booking train tickets instead for honeymoon, police have registered a dowry death case against him and five members of his family based on a complaint filed by the woman’s brother.Additional DCP (east) Amol Murkut said, “The couple, natives of Bihar, had been living in Shivajipuram, Indiranagar, since their marriage on Feb 26. During questioning, the husband, a deputy manager with a private bank, told police that their honeymoon had been postponed due to his work commitments. He said the couple had initially booked flight tickets to Kashmir but switched to train travel on Jul 3, which upset his wife and led to an argument.”According to the husband, he left for work on Jul 4 and later grew concerned when his wife did not answer repeated calls. He contacted the landlord, and after finding the door locked from inside, they entered the flat and found her hanging. She was rushed to a hospital, where doctors declared her dead.However, the woman’s brother alleged she had been harassed repeatedly for a car and cash despite substantial gifts being given at the time of marriage. He claimed she was murdered and the incident was staged as a suicide. The complainant also accused the husband of delaying information to the family and photographing the body instead of rushing her to hospital.Police have booked the husband, his parents, brother, sister-in-law and sister under charges including dowry death.
