Lucknow: The Lucknow plant of Tata Motors is all set to roll out a zero-emission hydrogen fuel cell-powered commercial vehicle.The company, in collaboration with Indian Oil Corporation Ltd, has already started conducting the trials of the prototypes.“It could take up to 30 months to develop a bus that would run on hydrogen,” said managing director and chief executive officer of Tata Motors, Girish Wagh, on Wednesday.Tata Motors plant at Dewa Road at present has the capacity to produce light, medium and heavy-duty trucks as well as different kinds of buses that are powered by diesel, compressed natural gas, battery and hydrogen cells.“The plant is an important facility for the group. We were able to produce 56,000 commercial vehicles from Lucknow last year. The facility runs completely on renewable energy, is water-positive and has achieved the ‘zero waste to landfill’ status,” he said.The senior executive added that UP accounts for the highest demand for commercial vans (Magic and Winger), while strong sales volumes are also registered for the 55-tonne heavy-duty trucks.Uttar Pradesh is the second-largest market in the country when it comes to the demand for commercial motor vehicles.
