Lucknow: Rinku Singh, who is known for his role as a finisher in the Indian squad, said that getting into the team and cementing one’s position is not easy as the competition is intense.“The competition is very intense, but my focus remains on giving my best whenever I get an opportunity,” said Rinku, who played a key role in Meerut Mavericks’ title-winning campaign in 2024.The Meerut team has been one of the most consistent teams in the league, finishing as runners-up twice in three editions. Rinku, who has scored 798 runs in three editions, is hoping to help his team retain the title. However, he is expected to leave the team midway through the tournament to join the Central Zone team for the Duleep Trophy, scheduled to begin in Bengaluru on Aug 23.Speaking about the UPT20 League, Rinku said the tournament continues to provide a strong platform for young players. “Every season, the atmosphere is really positive. All the new players who come in get opportunities, perform well and go on to play in the IPL,” Rinku said.On the new crop of fast bowlers set to feature in the league, Meerut Mavericks captain Rinku said, “There is absolutely no shortage of talent in Uttar Pradesh; all that was needed was the right opportunity. The boys selected through the Speed Hunt possess sheer pace and will pose a challenge to batters.”Speaking about the 2027 World Cup, Rinku expressed confidence that India can lift the trophy again. “India will win it. We have won it twice before, and we will win it again,” he said.
