The December 2026 box office is making waves for its stacked lineup with films like ‘Avengers: Doomsday’, ‘Dune: Part Three’, ‘King’ and ‘Jumanji 3’ releasing together. Going by the latest reports, it seems that December 2027 will likely be no different. The makers of ‘Kalki 2898 AD’ are reportedly gearing up for the next chapter in the sci-fi franchise following the blockbuster success of the first film. Directed by Nag Ashwin, the much-awaited sequel is reportedly targeting a grand theatrical release in December 2027, Pinkvilla reports. The film, starring Prabhas, Amitabh Bachchan, Kamal Haasan and Sai Pallavi in lead roles is expected to wrap filming by April 2027 as it targets a December 2027 release. As per the report, a source close to the production revealed, “Makers of Kalki 2 are planning an extensive post-production process, given the heavy visual effects and world-building required for the futuristic spectacle.”The sequel is expected to pick up directly from where the first film ended, delving deeper into the mythology and emotional conflicts. While plot details remain tightly under wraps, especially after Deepika Padukone’s exit from the film, rumours are rife that the battle between Kamal Haasan’s antagonist Supreme Yaskin will form the central focus of the narrative. “The sequel is a lot bigger than the first part, as the real battle in the world of Kalki begins here,” the report added. If the reported release plan remains unchanged, ‘Kalki 2′ will arrive during a crowded December 2027 box office window that already includes major international and Indian releases. Among the films currently slated for release that month are ‘Avengers: Secret Wars’, ‘The Lord of the Rings: The Hunt for Gollum’ and ‘Tumbbad 2’, among other films. While ‘Secret Wars’ is expected to clash wih ‘The Hunt for Gollum’, ‘Tumbbad 2’ will release early in the month, trying to secure a solo window.
