Lucknow: To facilitate better diagnosis and treatment of patients, King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Thursday announced the set up of an AI-enabled 3T MRI machine, robotic surgery systems, digital X-rays machines and a central sterilisation system in different departments.The AI-powered 3T MRI machine costing about Rs 24 crore has been installed at the orthopedic department.The machine is intended to provide a better, clearer and faster image of the affected part to help doctors diagnose ligament injuries, spine conditions and complex fractures and start treatment accordingly, benefitting 2000-3000 patients daily. Earlier, patients had to visit the radiology department for MRI.A robotic surgery system worth Rs 8 crore has also been set up in the orthopaedic department. It will improve precision in joint replacements and complex procedures, helping reduce errors and support faster recovery.Two digital X-ray units costing nearly Rs 3 crore each are being installed in the orthopaedic department and trauma centre respectively, replacing older machines. These machines produce high quality images in less time and also allow better imaging in obese patients.Meanwhile, a Central Sterile Services Department (CSSD), costing around Rs 10 crore, is also being set up for sterilisation of all surgical instruments used across all the departments in the university.Bedsides, a mobile digital X-ray machine has also been provided to the trauma centre which will allow bedside examination of critically injured patients.Head, radiodiagnosis department, Prof Anit Parihar said that the new machines will improve diagnosis and treatment.On the other hand, the paediatric orthopaedics department has started an occupational and physical therapy unit for children with cerebral palsy. In this unit, the rehabilitation including continuous monitoring and physiotherapy of the patients will be done after the surgery. Earlier, patients were sent home after teaching them some exercises. Now, a patient will walk out after full recovery, said head of the department, Prof Vikas Verma.KGMU, vice-chancellor, Prof Nityanand said, “The addition of new facilities will enhance diagnostic precision, reduce waiting time and make advanced imaging accessible at affordable government rates”.
