Lucknow: King George’s Medical University (KGMU) on Saturday issued a show-cause notice to a professor of the ophthalmology department for allegedly contacting the complainant and attempting to settle a case in which the latter had accused another professor of the same department of prescribing medicines and lenses for cataract surgery from a private shop instead of the hospital-run subsidised centre. The professor, Sanjiv Gupta, accused in the anomalies, has already been suspended and a probe against him is pending. Significantly, the professor who has now been served the show-cause notice was a member of the five-member inquiry panel that probed the complaint against Gupta.KGMU spokesperson Dr KK Singh said the complainant submitted an audio recording of a conversation with the professor, who has now been issued the show-cause notice.Meanwhile, in connection with the alleged Rs 2.5 crore Asadhya Rog Yojana (ARY) scam in the urology department, the panel investigating the matter recorded the statement of ARY nodal officer Dr Vivek Kumar Singh. He is currently admitted to the trauma centre following a recent road rage incident. In the case, funds provided under ARY were siphoned off through forged bills and ‘fake’ patients.
