Lucknow: Senior advocate IB Singh on Friday examined freedom fighter Subhas Chandra Bose’s political ideology, his differences with Mahatma Gandhi and Jawaharlal Nehru, the trajectory of the Indian National Army,or INA, and enduring questions around Bose’s life and death during a discussion titled, ‘Netaji: Bharat Ki Ankahi Gatha’ at Mahamana Hall of the Allahabad High Court’s Lucknow Bench.Singh said Bose’s commitment to armed resistance against British rule and his pursuit of international backing for India’s freedom struggle marked a distinct strategy compared with other leaders of the independence movement. He also outlined Bose’s views on governance, including support for a strong central authority during the transition period after independence. The session traced Bose’s journey through documented facts and referenced material, detailing the formation and role of the INA and the fate of its soldiers following Japan’s surrender. Singh said the discussion also touched upon unanswered issues concerning reported funds and resources linked to the Azad Hind govt.Different accounts surrounding Bose’s disappearance and death were reviewed, including theories that have remained in public debate for decades.Singh said he spent five years researching Bose and studied works by Indian and foreign authors. He said his aim was to attach proper references to each historical episode so audiences could distinguish between established facts, interpretations and unresolved questions. The discussion also referred to Bose’s personal life, including his thoughts, his marriage to Austrian woman Emilie Schenkl, and lesser-known incidents connected to his journey.Justice Rajan Roy, retired Lt Gen RP Shahi, former ASI director general Rakesh Tiwari and former Awadh Bar Association president LP Mishra attended.
