LUCKNOW: Chaudhary Charan Singh International Lucknow airport has become the first airport in India to be certified as an ‘Eat Right Campus’ by the Food Safety and Standards Authority of India (FSSAI), for having high standards in food safety and hygiene. The certification, valid from March 24, 2026 to March 23, 2028, has been awarded with a three star compliance rating under FSSAI guidelines. The certificate was formally presented by additional district magistrate, Lucknow East, Mahendra Pal Singh. The recognition came after a comprehensive third party audit of all food outlets and food service providers operating within the airport premisesThe audit evaluated compliance across four key areas, namely safe food, healthy food, sustainable food, and awareness building.Under the certification norms, inspectors assessed hygiene and sanitation standards during food preparation, handling, storage and service, besides ensuring compliance with FSSAI licensing requirements. The audit also examined the availability of nutritious food options, food waste management practices, safe drinking water facilities, promotion of local and seasonal food, and awareness initiatives for consumers and food handlers.FSSAI food safety inspector Nikita Agarwal confirmed that Lucknow airport is in the country to complete the certification process and receive official recognition as an ‘Eat Right Campus’.She said the certification focuses on maintaining high standards of hygiene in operational kitchens rather than only the appearance of food outlets.According to Agarwal, staff members underwent specialised food safety training, including proper food handling techniques, segregation of vegetarian and non vegetarian food, and the use of colour coded chopping boards. She said the certification process took several months and involved pre inspection by FSSAI officials, staff training, a final audit by an FSSAI approved third party agency, and verification before the certificate was issued. The FSSAI team inspected two airport kitchens including Brio Art House operated by Ramada management and Semolina Kitchen during the process. The certification is expected to strengthen food safety standards and enhance the overall passenger experience at Lucknow Airport.
