LUCKNOW: The Mohanlalganj double murder was triggered by lust and dispute over a meagre payment of Rs 160 between the accused and the victims, police said.The accused, Kishan Rawat, 35, was arrested after an encounter in Lucknow on Wednesday night and suffered a gunshot wound in a leg in the exchange of fire.According to police, Rawat had bought goods worth Rs 160 from the grocery shop of the 45-year-old woman on credit and she had been repeatedly pressuring him to clear the dues. The argument escalated on March 9 evening and Rawat killed the woman and her 18-year-old visually impaired son at the latter’s home, said police.Rawat met the woman after getting a job at a construction site and began visiting her shop. After learning that she was a widow and had some property in her name, he tried befriending her but his advances were snubbed by her, said that a police officer, adding that this too had angered him.DCP (South Zone) Nipun Agarwal, who supervised the probe, said Rawat told cops during interrogation that he went to the woman’s home after consuming alcohol on March 9 evening on the pretext of making payment. But she was at the shop and her son asked him to come later. “Rawat returned after the woman was back. They argued over the payment during which the woman’s son abused Rawat. This angered him and he kicked the boy, causing him to fall into a water tank and strangled him. When the mother tried to intervene, Rawat pushed her to the ground and raped her. When she resisted and raised an alarm, he killed her and fled,” said ACP Mohanlalganj, Vikas Pandey, quoting Rawat’s confession. Police said after killing the victims he assaulted their bodies. The boy’s body was found in a water tank with a container placed over it, while the woman’s body was found on a bed in a room with a cloth wrapped around her neck. Police said Rawat was an alcoholic and had a history of violent behaviour. His wife left him years ago due to domestic violence and now lives with her children at her parental home. Rawat was cornered by cops near a brick kiln on Lucknow outskirts on Wednesday evening. Seeing police, he fired from a country-made pistol, injuring a constable. In retaliatory firing, he was shot in the leg.
