Lucknow: Even as mercury levels dropped by 2-4 degrees Celsius across the state on Tuesday, Banda continued to sizzle under severe hot conditions.Lucknow and other parts of the state saw a slight dip in day-time mercury levels due to change in the wind pattern from dry hot westerlies.State met officials, however, predicted slight relief from the scorching heat in some parts of the state on Wednesday and Thursday due to thunderstorms, strong winds and partly cloudy sky.The Bundelkhand region continued to reel under severe hot conditions. The maximum temperature in Banda was 45.6 degrees Celsius, 3.4 notches above normal. It was the seventh time in the past 15 days that Banda was the hottest in the country.Orai in Bundelkhand recorded 43.8 degrees Celsius, 4.4 units above normal, and was also among top hotspots in the country.According to Mohammad Danish, senior scientist at the Indian Meteorological department, Lucknow, the drop in temperatures in other parts of the state was due to change in the wind pattern from dry hot westerlies from Rajasthan to moisture-laden easterly coming from the Bay of Bengal. This change in the wind pattern has also led to formation of a couple of cyclonic circulations over UP. These circulations coupled with moisture feed have potential to cause thunderstorms at isolated places in the west UP and at a few places in the east.Lucknow also saw a slight dip in day-time mercury levels. The maximum temperature was 39.7 degrees Celsius on Tuesday in comparison to Monday’s 40.3 degrees Celsius. The minimum temperature, however, increased. On Tuesday, it was 26.4 degrees Celsius, while on Monday 24.8 degrees Celsius. The moisture incursion led to a rise in relative humidity in the city on Tuesday. It oscillated between 32-78%, making conditions a bit sultry. On Wednesday, in Lucknow, sky will be mainly clear but become partly cloudy towards the afternoon. There are possibilities of one or two spells of thunder showers. The maximum and minimum temperatures are expected to be around 38 and 27 degrees Celsius, respectively.
