Lucknow: Lucknow is likely to get a new police commissioner soon, with incumbent Amrendra Singh Sengar set to be promoted to the rank of director general (DG), sources said.Sources said Sengar’s promotion is expected to be cleared this week, following which UP govt is likely to appoint a new police commissioner for the state capital. Deliberations over his successor are underway, and orders for the new appointment may be issued within the next couple of days.A 1995-batch IPS officer, Sengar was originally due for promotion after the retirement of DG-rank officer Ashok Mutha Jain on Aug 30. However, the process was expedited after DG Fire Services Sujeet Pandey was appointed director of the Sardar Vallabhbhai Patel National Police Academy on central deputation, creating a vacancy in the DG rank.State govt recently relieved Pandey to enable him to take up his new assignment, paving the way for Sengar’s elevation. With Sengar’s promotion imminent, attention has now shifted to who will take over as the next police commissioner of Lucknow.Sengar assumed charge as Lucknow police commissioner on June 22, 2024, after his predecessor, S B Shiradkar, a 1993-batch IPS officer, was promoted to the rank of DG.
