MADURAI: Madras high court on Monday struck down a GO issued by the Tamil Nadu govt granting govt jobs to the family members of the Karur stampede victims.A division bench of Justice C V Karthikeyan and Justice R Sakthivel passed the order while allowing a batch of public interest litigations filed seeking to restrain the state govt from issuing appointment orders to the family members of the Karur stampede victims.During the previous hearing, the court permitted a Tamil Nadu govt function in Karur on July 10 where chief minister C Joseph Vijay would be handing over appointment orders to family members of the victims, with a condition that the jobs would only be on a temporary basis subject to judicial review. The court said that it intended to hear the main matters within the end of the month before the prospective persons to whom employment had been offered receive their first salary. The Karur stampede took place during a rally of Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam (TVK) chief and actor Vijay on September 27, 2025, leaving 41 people dead and several others injured.
