Maharashtra Teacher Eligibility Test (TET) 2026, scheduled to be held on June 28, was postponed after Bhiwandi Police uncovered an alleged question paper leak just a day before the examination. Police said the accused had planned to sell the leaked paper for around Rs 1.5 crore.Speaking about the case, Additional Commissioner of Police (Bhiwandi), Ashok Dudhe, said the police acted on prior intelligence received through informants.“The accused were coming to Bhiwandi to sell the examination paper. We had received prior information about this through our informants. Before they could sell the paper, we laid a trap and apprehended them. After examining the papers that were seized, it was confirmed that they were intended to be used in the examination scheduled for tomorrow,” Dudhe said as quoted by news agency IANS.Deputy Commissioner of Police Pawan Bansod said the police had received secret information that outsiders were bringing the TET question paper to Bhiwandi ahead of the exam.“We laid a trap… after this, we apprehended three accused and upon checking them we found four different exam papers. Immediately, we called the senior officers of the Education department. After verifying the exam papers, we came to know that this exam was going to be conducted tomorrow,” he said.According to Bansod, the investigation is still at an early stage. An FIR has been registered, and police expect more arrests as the probe continues. The Education Department and Thane Police have launched a joint investigation to identify the mastermind behind the leak, find out how the examination security was breached, and determine whether any insiders were involved. The MSCE has assured candidates that a fresh examination date will be announced soon. All updates regarding the rescheduled exam and revised guidelines will be published on the council’s official website.
