Lucknow: Unidentified assailants shot a man and his 3-year-old son while they were asleep inside their home in Turani village in Sitapur in the early hours of Sunday. Both victims are in critical condition.According to officials, the incident took place around 3 am when the attackers allegedly cut the electricity supply to the house, plunging the area into darkness. Taking advantage of the blackout, the assailants removed a tarpaulin tied to the entrance door, reportedly secured with bricks, and opened fire on 35-year-old Sunil Kumar and his son Abhay as they slept. The sound of gunfire triggered panic in the village, with residents rushing out of their homes. The injured father and child were immediately taken to a nearby hospital, where doctors described their condition as critical.Family members said the attack appeared to be premeditated, as the electric cable outside the house was deliberately cut before the shooting. Sunil’s elder brother, Kishori Lal, stated that the family has no known enmity with anyone and was shocked by the sudden attack.During the investigation, police and forensic teams collected evidence from the scene. A room in a temple located about 100 metres from the house was found with a broken lock, and some ration and other items were reported missing. Villagers suspect the attack may have been carried out with the intention of robbery, although police said all angles are being probed.Station house officer Mukesh Verma said multiple teams have been formed to trace the attackers, and questioning of local residents is underway.
