Lucknow: Indira Nagar police on Sunday registered an FIR against 8-10 people for allegedly assaulting a 35-year-old man with sticks and iron rods after he allegedly refused to pay an extortion demand.The victim, Akhilesh Kumar, alleged in his complaint that he was returning home from Bajrang Chauraha at around 10.45pm on Friday when he was allegedly surrounded by 8-10 men, including four identified as Chetram, Ritik Rawat, Suraj Rawat and Karan Rawat.He said the men thrashed him brutally, leaving him critically injured. He claimed that after he fell unconscious, the attackers fled the spot assuming he had died.After regaining consciousness, Kumar said he called the police emergency helpline (112) which took him to Civil Hospital for treatment and medical examination.In his complaint, Kumar said that one of the accused, Chetram, had been demanding ₹10,000 a month from him as extortion money for some time and had threatened to kill him if he failed to pay.Police said that the main accused, Chetram, had been taken into custody and was being interrogated. Further legal action was being taken based on the available evidence.
