Lucknow: A 65-year-old woman was allegedly beaten to death by her son after she tried to stop him from consuming alcohol in Sitapur district on Saturday. The accused son is absconding.The incident took place in Beniyapur village of Imalia Sultanpur area where the victim, Savitri Devi, lived with her only son Tribhuvan.According to villagers, Tribhuvan is an alcoholic, unemployed, and frequently returns home drunk. His drinking habit and demands for money often led to quarrels with his mother, and he had allegedly assaulted her on several occasions in the past.Police said Tribhuvan returned home drunk on Saturday. When Savitri Devi objected to his drinking and tried to counsel him, he allegedly lost his temper and attacked her with a heavy wooden stick, repeatedly striking her on the head and other parts of her body.Hearing her cries for help, neighbours rushed to the house, but by then the woman had succumbed to her injuries. A forensic team also inspected the spot and collected evidence. The body was sent for postmortem.
