Lucknow: A 26-year-old man was killed in a hit-and-run on Hardoi Road in Kakori, triggering protests by locals and the victim’s family, police said on Sunday.The deceased, identified as Himalaya, resident of Mandoli village and son of Shivmangal, was returning home after visiting his younger brother, Himanshu, who is undergoing treatment for injuries suffered in a fall from a mango tree.According to police, Himalaya had gone to a private hospital to deliver food to his brother. Around 9pm, after getting down from an autorickshaw near Golakuan village, he was crossing the road when a speeding black SUV coming from Malihabad allegedly hit him.Eyewitnesses said the impact flung him several metres into the air, killing him on the spot. The driver fled without stopping.Angered by the incident, villagers staged a protest, placing the body on the road and blocking traffic for nearly three hours, leading to a 1.5-km jam. Family members demanded Rs 1 crore compensation and govt job for kin, stating Himalaya was the sole breadwinner.Kakori SHO Satish Chandra Rathore said FIR has been registered and efforts are on to trace the vehicle.
