Lucknow: Lucknow: A consumer fed up with prolonged delay in delivery of an LPG cylinder has filed a petition at the District Consumer Disputes Redressal Commission in UP’s Ambedkarnagar for redressal.The court has summoned the District Supply Officer (DSO) and a gas agency manager on April 28 to clear their stand on the issue.Ishwarchandra Yadav had booked a domestic LPG cylinder on March 13 through a gas agency but did not receive delivery even after a long wait. Despite repeated complaints to the agency, no action was taken. The food and civil supplies department also allegedly failed to intervene.Finally, he filed a complaint on April 16 under the Consumer Protection Act. In his petition, Yadav alleged that despite repeated follow-ups with the agency, including personal visits and telephonic complaints, no satisfactory response was provided by the agency management.Frustrated over the delay, he approached officials of the food and civil supplies department but in vain.Taking a prima facie view, the commission chairman Gangaram observed that the complaint indicates “deficiency in service” and possible unfair trade practice, particularly as LPG supply is classified as an essential public utility. The commission noted that failure to deliver a booked cylinder within a reasonable timeframe, without valid justification, can amount to violation of consumer rights.The court has sought detailed explanations from both the district administration and the agency regarding the delay, supply chain issues, and grievance redressal mechanism. It will also examine whether there has been systemic negligence or deliberate inaction in addressing consumer complaints.The next hearing is on April 28.
