Lucknow: The thought-provoking play ‘My First Encounter’, written and directed by Anawar Beg, was staged at the International Buddhist Research Centre on Thursday. The play was performed on the second day of a three-day theatre festival organised by Shraddha Manav Sewa Kalyan Samiti in collaboration with the culture department, New Delhi. The plot of the play revolved around Vikram Singh, a newly recruited police inspector who wants to impress his seniors by solving criminal cases. However, as no major crimes take place in the area under his jurisdiction, he falsely implicates a petty thief and presents him as a dreaded serial killer. He subsequently kills the thief in an encounter.Vikram initially succeeds in creating the image of a fearless and efficient officer, but his wrongdoing is eventually exposed, leaving him consumed by guilt.“Through its gripping narrative, the play underlined that honesty and integrity form the real foundation of public service, while shortcuts taken for recognition ultimately lead to disgrace,” said Beg.
