Lucknow: A month-long children’s theatre workshop at Bhartendu Natya Akademi concluded on Sunday with the staging of ‘Karmanye Vadhikaraste: Murli Se Matribhoomi Tak’, written and directed by theatre veteran Walter Peter and performed by children trained during the programme. Participants received 30 days of instruction in acting, movement, voice and stage discipline before presenting the production. Drawing on mythology, the play followed Lord Krishna’s journey from his birth and childhood in Gokul to the fall of Kansa, then moved to Hastinapur and the battlefield of Kurukshetra. The narrative focused on Krishna’s counsel to Arjuna from the Bhagavad Gita, using dialogue, music and choreography to underline ideas of karma and dharma. It connected the Gita’s message to the life of Swami Vivekananda, depicting how he carried its teachings to wider audiences. In the finale, Krishna’s flute transitioned into the call of ‘Vande Mataram’. The staging featured colourful costumes, music and coordinated stagecraft. Peter said the workshop aimed at building friendships through theatrical games, coordination and teamwork among children.
