Lucknow: MLA Rajeshwar Singh’s ambitious ‘Net Zero Sarojininagar 2040’ initiative is gaining traction as an integrated model of sustainable development, blending environmental conservation, industry participation and community outreach to make the constituency carbon-neutral.A statement issued on Monday said more than 20,000 residents have pledged support, signalling strong public buy-in for the campaign aimed at transforming Sarojininagar into a benchmark for climate action.On World Environment Day, the Green Shift Golf Tournament Awards 2026 helped amplify awareness, with Bollywood actor Sanjay Dutt in attendance. The event honoured 23 golfers and awarded prizes worth up to Rs6 lakh.The campaign has also rolled out a ‘Net Zero’ industry programme to push MSMEs towards greener practices. Youth empowerment centres are training young people in environmental leadership, while 500 ecologically and culturally significant trees have been planted.Women-led ‘Tara Shakti Sewing Centres’ have produced more than 30,000 eco-friendly bags. Wildlife conservation drives in the Terai, solar-powered water pumps, support to forest personnel, smart classrooms, digital libraries and women-focused skill programmes further broaden the initiative.Singh said the mission aims to ensure a cleaner, greener future while evolving into a people-driven movement for long-term climate resilience.
