NEW DELHI: The Bharatiya Janata Party, the single-largest party in the 243-member Assembly with 89 MLAs, has elected Samrat Choudhary as its legislature party leader. This followed as Nitish Kumar resigned from his position as the Bihar chief minister after he recommended the dissolution of his cabinet.Kumar, the longest-serving chief minister of Bihar, informed his cabinet colleagues of the decision to dissolve the council of ministers, a constitutional requirement before formally tendering his resignation to the governor.The 202-member National Democratic Alliance includes 85 MLAs from Janata Dal (United), along with 19 from Lok Janshakti Party (Ram Vilas) and five from Hindustani Awam Morcha, led by Union ministers Chirag Paswan and Jitan Ram Manjhi, respectively.The alliance also includes five MLAs from Rashtriya Lok Morcha, headed by Rajya Sabha MP Upendra Kushwaha.
