NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha leader of opposition Rahul Gandhi on Sunday extended wishes to C Joseph Vijay as he assumed office as Tamil Nadu chief minister after his party, Tamilaga Vettri Kazhagam, delivered a stellar performance in its electoral debut, securing more than 100 seats in the 234-member state assembly.Congress leader Rahul Gandhi hailed the Vijay-led TVK government in Tamil Nadu as “A new generation. A new voice. A new imagination.”He posted on X: “Tamil Nadu has chosen. My good wishes to Thiru Vijay – may he fulfil the hopes of the people of Tamil Nadu.”Meanwhile, Rahul also attended the swearing-in ceremony of Thalapathy Vijay at Chennai’s Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium. The Vijay-led TVK force emerged as a major disruptor in the state Assembly elections, breaking the 50-year-old duopoly of the traditional Dravidian forces, Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam and All India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam. However, TVK fell short of a majority, after which Congress joined the alliance and extended support of its five MLAs to Vijay, while breaking ties with the previously incumbent DMK led by MK Stalin, a move being seen as a major blow to the INDIA bloc.
