Lucknow: Nine policemen have faced departmental action following an investigation into alleged irregularities during a cyber fraud crackdown at Lucknow’s Summit Building, where around 122 people were detained in connection with an international cyber fraud network.Deputy commissioner of police, Crime, Anil Yadav, said that one head constable and two constables were suspended, while two sub-inspectors and four constables were sent to lines.Senior police officials said that the action against the cops, all posted in crime branch, was taken because they were part of the initial team which had raided Summit Building on July 1, and during which around three had managed to escape. The police arrested one of them and the two others remain absconding. The scrutiny reportedly brought the role of some policemen under the scanner. Following the inquiry, three personnel were suspended and six were sent to the police lines.Police officials said the investigation into the matter is continuing and further action could follow if the role of any other personnel is established. The development comes amid an ongoing probe into the wider cyber fraud network, with investigators examining digital evidence and the role of individuals involved at different levels of the operation. Officials have maintained that action will be taken against anyone found to have assisted, facilitated or protected cybercriminals.
