Lucknow: Chief minister Yogi Adityanath on Tuesday said that Muharram, to be observed on June 26, is an occasion for mourning and not for a show of strength. While reviewing security arrangements for the event, the CM said that no display of weapons of any kind would be allowed during programmes linked to Muharram, and that loud music, DJs, loud drums, or any new traditions would not be permitted. He directed officials to take “the strictest action against attempts to disturb peace.”In a late-night meeting on Tuesday, the CM directed all district magistrates and superintendents of police to establish communication with religious heads and community representatives in advance regarding arrangements for Muharram and ensure that no law and order violations are allowed to take place.“Effective control should be maintained over the uncontrolled use of ear-splitting DJs, drums, and tashas. There should be no display of any kind of weapons in Muharram processions. To prevent any kind of accident, the height of taziyas should be kept in accordance with the prescribed standards, and taziyas taller than 10 to 12 feet will not be permitted,” the CM said.He added that while everyone’s faith should be respected, the introduction of any new tradition would not be acceptable under any circumstances.
