Lucknow: Nobel prize-winning physicist Konstantin Sergeevich Novoselov inspired students with his thoughts on curiosity, determination, and scientific thinking during his visit to Babasaheb Bhimrao Ambedkar University (BBAU) on Wednesday.Addressing a gathering of students and faculty members, he encouraged young minds to stay focused on their goals and pursue knowledge with dedication and confidence. Novoselov, who received the Nobel Prize in Physics for his work on graphene, spoke about the importance of curiosity and creativity in scientific research. Graphene, a single layer of carbon atoms arranged in a hexagonal lattice, is known for its remarkable strength, flexibility and electrical conductivity, making it one of the most promising materials for future technologies. During the interaction, the Russian-British physicist emphasised that progress in science depends on questioning established ideas and exploring new possibilities. He urged students to develop a habit of critical thinking and experimentation, explaining that many groundbreaking discoveries begin with simple questions and persistent effort. “Young people should remain fully focused on their goals and continuously strive to move forward. Confidence, hard work, and the willingness to keep learning are the true strengths that help individuals succeed in any field. When you stay curious and open to new ideas, you not only grow as a person but also contribute to the progress of society and science,” said Novoselov. He also noted that physics continues to offer vast opportunities for young researchers.
