Lucknow: A total of 353 people were arrested and nine FIRs were registered on Monday in connection with the Noida unrest.According to senior police officials, nearly 42,000 workers gathered and staged demonstrations at 83 locations in Noida. Of these, arson took place at two places, prompting limited police intervention. The situation at these spots was brought under control with what officials described as “minimum and judicious use of force.”
Seven FIRs were lodged against unidentified persons and two against social media handles on X for spreading rumours about the incident.Noida police commissioner, Laxmi Singh, told TOI that majority of protest sites were handled through dialogue and coordination, with police and administration engaging directly with workers to defuse tensions peacefully.Earlier in the day, thousands of workers from multiple industrial units assembled across Noida, demanding wage hikes and better working conditions.The Uttar Pradesh Police said that FIRs are being registered against two social media handles for allegedly spreading rumours and misinformation related to the protests. Authorities indicated that some demonstrations may have been instigated by elements from outside the state, although this aspect is under further investigation.Police denied reports of any firing during the unrest and urged the public not to believe or circulate unverified claims. “Action is being taken against those spreading false and misleading information and attempting to incite people,” UP Police said in a statement.Reiterating its stance, the police appealed to citizens to maintain peace and rely only on official updates, adding that strict action will be taken against those involved in violence, arson, or attempts to disturb law and order.
