Lucknow: UP govt has shifted public holiday announced for Eid-ul-Azha (Bakrid) from May 27 to May 28 following confirmation based on moon sighting that the festival will be celebrated across the state on Thursday. With the revised order coming into effect, all govt offices, educational institutions and state-controlled establishments earlier scheduled to remain closed on Wednesday, May 27, will now function normally and instead observe the holiday on Thursday. The decision was announced through an official notification issued by general administration department of state govt.According to the notification, holiday for Eid-ul-Azha had initially been listed for May 27 in the annual public holiday calendar issued in Nov 2025 and the date was marked ‘subject to change depending on sighting of the moon’.After confirmation that Bakrid would be observed on May 28 in UP, govt formally amended the earlier order and declared Thursday public holiday. Officials said all departments, district administrations, educational institutions and govt bodies have been informed about the revised holiday schedule to ensure smooth implementation across the state.
