NEW DELHI: Lok Sabha Speaker Om Birla has asked CPWD officials and its architects to consider the feasibility and submit a proposal for the construction of a porch at Makar Dwar, which is mostly used by members of Parliament to enter and exit the complex.The plan of the porch would address the inconvenience caused to MPs and other staff, particularly when it rains.At present, the entrance is uncovered, unlike other “dwars” that the Speaker, Rajya Sabha chairman and PM use.Central Public Works Department (CPWD) will carry out a feasibility exercise to add a porch over this entrance. Officials said this is necessary considering that MPs arriving and leaving the new Parliament House wait for their vehicles out in the open. The government has not yet disclosed the exact cost of the project, which has reportedly escalated to around Rs 1,300 crore.
