His exit is the latest in a series of foreign coaching staff leaving Pakistan cricket without an official explanation. In recent years, trainer and physiotherapist Cliffe Deacon left his role, while former head coaches Gary Kirsten and Jason Gillespie also resigned.McDermott joined Pakistan in 2025 after replacing Mohammad Masroor as the national team’s fielding coach. One of the most notable exits came in 2019, when Steve Rixon resigned after differences with the board. The Pakistan men’s team has also changed several fielding coaches since Mickey Arthur’s first spell as head coach, when improving fitness and fielding became a major part of the team’s approach.
