NEW DELHI: Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s 12 years in office have been marked by the restoration of India’s pride, a cultural renaissance and removal of slave mentality, home minister Amit Shah said on Wednesday as Modi went past Jawaharlal Nehru’s tenure as elected head of govt.“Modi’s leadership is a journey from resolve to resolution and from service to good governance,” he said. Union ministers Piyush Goyal, Dharmendra Pradhan, Ashwini Vaishnaw among others offered prayers at temples to mark the twin milestones. In his remarks at the NDA meet, Shah sought to contrast Modi’s run as head of govt with Nehru’s as he emphasised Congress faced little political headwinds in the early years after Independence as it carried the legacy of freedom.“But in this time of politics of performance when people are repeatedly blessing Modi, his journey is also a journey of the democratic acceptance of his leadership,” he said, adding that his stint will be written in golden letters for political stability, policies and their implementation, and a robust defence doctrine that brooked no compromise with national pride. He noted that Modi will complete 25 years as head of govt, including his stint as Gujarat CM, on Oct 7. It will be an era of peerless leadership, he said.BJP president Nitin Nabin said Modi’s tenure symbolises his unparalleled dedication to the nation and has led to an unprecedented boost in development, security, economic empowerment and the country’s global stature.Defence minister Rajnath Singh said, “A tireless karmayogi guided by the principle of Nation First, his tenure reflects unwavering dedication to India, steadfast commitment to the welfare of people and transformative leadership in service of the nation.”“In these 12 years, on one hand, the country’s borders were secured, Article 370 was repealed from Kashmir, the Ram temple was built, Naxalism was finished and terrorism was reined in with a befitting response to every terror incident; on the other, collective strength of the nation learned to take pride in its heritage, culture and capabilities as it emerged out of an inferiority complex,” Shah said.
