NEW DELHI: Congress’s Rahul Gandhi led the opposition in slamming the fuel price hike by saying that people are paying for the mistakes of Modi govt, as he warned about more such shocks in the coming future. Also, Congress accused Modi govt of pushing the country’s jewellery sector towards “lockdown” through PM’s appeal that people avoid gold purchases, and through sharp increase in import duty on gold and silver.Rahul said, “The Rs 3 shock has already arrived, the rest of the recovery will be done in instalments.”CPM politburo condemned the move saying the hike would impose a greater burden on the people already reeling under inflation, unemployment and stagnant wages.Congress president Mallikarjun Kharge said the Centre is now seeking from the US an extension of 30-day waiver to buy Russian oil.Samajwadi Party chief Akhilesh Yadav took a swipe at PM Modi’s call to conserve fuel, saying that the bicycle, SP’s official election symbol, was the only alternative.
