Lucknow: Heavy rain lashed the state capital late night and in the early morning hours on Sunday, bringing relief from hot and humid conditions, though humidity remained high throughout the day, making the feels-like temperature higher than actual. The city recorded its highest rainfall of the monsoon season so far, leading to waterlogging in several areas.Rain began around 3 am and remained active until around 8 am. No significant rain was reported later in the day. The overcast afternoon remained humid with relative humidity ranging around 97%-81%.According to rainfall data recorded till 8:30 am, Aliganj received 100mm of rain, highest in the city, while Hanuman Setu recorded 80.6mm. The nearby areas received light rain, which also brought down temperatures. The maximum temperature was recorded at 31.4 degrees Celsius, 1.5 degrees below normal, while the minimum settled at around 26 degrees Celsius.The India Meteorological Department (IMD) has forecast an overcast sky with a few spells of rain or thundershowers in Lucknow on Monday. The maximum and minimum temperatures are likely to remain around 29 degrees Celsius and 26 degrees Celsius, respectively.The IMD has forecast rain and thunderstorms at many places across UP till Aug 18. Heavy rain is likely at isolated places, while thunderstorms accompanied by lightning are also expected. Maximum temperatures are likely to fall by 5-6 degrees Celsius during the period.Senior meteorologist at the Regional Meteorological Centre, Mohammad Danish, said the weather system over the northwest Bay of Bengal had strengthened and was likely to move northwestwards. “It may develop further over the next few days and bring more rain to several parts of the region. The system is expected to increase rainfall activity and may lead to heavy showers at some places,” he said.Across the state, Nighasan in Kheri recorded the highest rainfall in east UP at 192.4mm, followed by Muhammad in Kheri at 144mm and Kheri Lakhimpur at 124mm. In west UP, Rath in Hamirpur received the highest rainfall at 158mm, followed by Bijnor at 91mm and Chandausi in Sambhal at 84.5mm, according to rainfall data recorded till 8.30 am on Sunday.The IMD said rain and thundershowers are very likely at many places in west UP and at most places in east UP over the next few days.
